Trane® Heat Pumps in Houston

Everyone knows about furnaces, but heat pumps are a mystery for many in the Houston area. It’s something they’ve heard of, but have never seen in the wild. Like a unicorn or an honest used car dealer.

Introduced in the late 1950s, heat pumps were –and still are—home comfort systems that operate only on electricity. Instead of generating heat, they extract heat from inside and outside your home, recirculating that warmth through your ductwork.

Believe me, heat pumps are a lot more complicated than that single sentence can convey, so if you want to know a bit more about heat pumps, our Introduction to Heat Pumps offers more information. You can thank us later.

Heat pumps were extremely popular before the introduction of central HVAC, with the first ones marketed in the mid-to-late 1950s. General Electric introduced the WeatherTron Heat Pump in 1960, and even when Trane® acquired GE’s air conditioning division in 1982, it was still a popular product.

What are Some Benefits of a Trane® Heat Pump?

Selected Trane® Heat Pump Models – Features & Specifications

XV20i Variable Speed Heat Pump with ComfortLink™ II

This top-of-the-line unit allows for precise cooling, heating, and humidity control adjustment. Thanks to a variable speed motor that allows for adjustments as minimal as one-tenth of one percent, your home will be more consistently comfortable, eliminating temperature swings and reducing hot or cold spots.

By incorporating ComfortLink™ II technology into the Trane® Home App, your XV20i Heat Pump is not solely controlled by the homeowner via the app.

Because of the amount of cooling and heating stages permitted by the variable-speed motor, your unit is able to optimize its performance over time as it constructs algorithms based on the everyday usage of the system. In other words, you don’t program the XV20i’s operating schedule; it learns your home’s heating and cooling needs and seamlessly integrates those settings.

XV20i Variable Speed Heat Pump Technical Specifications:

  • UP TO 21.00 SEER/10.00 HSPF
  • Trane Link connectivity
  • Climatuff® Compressor (stages): 750

  • Compressor Sound Insulator
  • 54 – 76 Overall Sound Power Level [dB(A)]

XL18i Two-Stage Electric Heat Pump

This two-stage electric heat pump uses two speeds to keep your home comfortable all year long. Two-speed heat pumps offer an excellent balance between value, comfort, and efficiency that a single-stage unit can’t match.

Pairing your XL18i heat pump with a furnace gives the homeowner the flexibility of a hybrid system. Allow your heat pump to handle the more moderate days and nights of a Houston winter, and fall back on your gas or electric furnace for those deep freeze events.

Two-stage Trane® heat pumps provide excellent cooling and heating comfort, along with reduced energy costs and high performance. Available options include compressor sound insulators –to reduce fan noises even lower than the already low 72 – 74 decibel rating—along with WeatherGuard tops to protect the components of the outdoor unit.

XL18i Heat Pump Technical Specifications:

  • UP TO 18.00 SEER/9.50 HSPF
  • Climatuff® Compressor (stages): 2
  • 70/100% Capacity Variability
  • 72 – 74 Overall Sound Power Level [dB(A)]
  • Spine Fin™ Coil
  • WeatherGuard™ top (optional)

XR16 Single-Stage Electric Heat Pump

The XR16 offers an impressive SEER rating of 17, making it an excellent choice for any home seeking to be more energy efficient. This unit provides the best value, combining a lower price with Energy Star qualification, yet is still as quiet and durable as you’d expect any Trane® product to be.

XR16 Single-Stage Heat Pump Technical Specifications:

  • UP TO 17.00 SEER/10.00 HSPF
  • Climatuff® Compressor (stages): 1
  • 100% Capacity Variability

Very good experience. My technician Anthony P. was very open with ideas for problem solving. On time service. Good communication system. Very professional work. All done very neatly and timely as proposed. Very satisfied and have shared my experience with others as Nick’s should be their go to company.

I called Nick’s Plumbing to complete a natural gas line replace and repair job after being frustrated with the incompetence of the supposed “expert” plumbers in West University Place. Nick’s employees were knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. They finished a job in a day that the prior company could not complete in a week – and at a much lower cost. Many thanks!
